Welcome to SOEG.org. We are honored that you have chosen to learn more about our organization. By visiting our page, it means you have decided to learn more about epilepsy and be apart of an amazing group that is dedicated to helping those who have been diagnosed through their journey. 65 Million people worldwide are currently living with epilepsy. Every year another 150,000 in the US alone will be diagnosed. Of those newly diagnosed only 1/3 with actually outgrow the seizure disorder. Although not everyone who has a seizure is an epileptic. 1 in 26 people will at some point experience a seizure in their lifetime. This is usually caused by a head trauma or stroke. Although many are able to control their epilepsy through medication, various implants and even high CBD, low THC cannabis. The fact remains little is known about what causes epilepsy. The body changes as it grows and so does the way epilepsy affects the brain. Seizures need to be monitored for intensity, duration and frequency in order to stay on top of the disorder. Without seizure control our loved ones become an even higher risk of SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy). 50,000 people a year lose their lives to SUDEP and we need to change that by providing monitoring systems to help Neurologist with the information needed to properly treat epilepsy.
You may want to know what SUDEP is? Truth is no one really knows. Despite research, it is still unclear what is the true cause of SUDEP. Much like SIDS in babies, SUDEP happens during sleep and our loved ones slip away without any warning. This is why monitoring devices are so very important to our families. Please help be apart of the team dedicated to fighting SUDEP and Epilepsy as well as spreading the awareness.
